I think buttercups might be the most underrated flowers.
I think they are so cute and each flower is so full of personality. I always find the yellow/orange ones at our neighborhood florist but I rarely see the pink ones.
I decided to make my own. While I like cardstock for its convenience it was hard to make a convincing one with rigid material. I decided to go with felt for this project.
Ok, I admit, not my finest work but it could be worse. I think if I had made a third one, it was have been a lot better.
While I didn’t have to do any sewing for this felt flower, it did require a lot of gluing and having burned my fingers a third time with the hot glue gun, I thought I’d give this one a rest for the time being.
Nonetheless, I thought I’d share it with my readers for now. I’m certain you all can do better than me.

Materials for Felt Ranunculus
Felt – I like the polyester blends for this project so technically its fleece but the flexibility of the blends makes it a more forgiving material. Here’s the assorted set I got from Amazon. You need about 36 1 inch circles so I’ll let you do the calculation as to how big of a sheet you need.
Hot Glue Gun – I’m still not quite a pro at using this thing. Fabric glue works too but it’ll take you forever to make a flower.
Template – I’ve included my felt ranunculus templates in both SVG and printable form for free in my resource library.
How to assemble the felt Ranunculus
Step 1: Cut the felt from the templates
I experimented with different curvatures of the petals and optimized them through the length of the base slit in my templates.
Step 2: Glue the base flaps together
I add a little dab of glue and then hold it in place for 4 to 5 seconds. This is where I burned myself because I was in a hurry. Take your time.
Step 3: Glue the petals in line
For the smallest 3 sets of petals, I glued the left-most part of the petal to the rightmost part of the next. This creates a line rather than a spiral effect.
The outer or largest set of petals, I glue into more of a spiral so it would flare out more.
Alternatively, you can just glue those last 9 petals on one by one.
