Lace Paper Flowers

I’ve been on a lace kick lately and thought it would look nice as petal designs on paper flowers. As always, I’ve included my SVG cut files for this project for free.

A lot of people try to make paper flowers look as close to the real thing as possible. I’m sort of in a different camp. I’ve decided paper flowers are their own art form and my goal is not to make it look like it does in nature.

If I wanted real flowers, I would just buy real flowers.

Maybe I’m just justifying my latest project. ha!

In any case, here’s a few tips on how to make these paper flowers.

Material Recommendations for Lace Paper Flowers

Cardstock – I’ve been making a lot of detailed cut designs lately and there are a few winners in Cardstock brands.

  • Assorted Starter Pack – Basic assorted colors, great starter pack, perfect weight for most papercraft projects
  • Cricut Joy Insert Card Packs – You don’t have to use these with the Cricut Joy, they are nice material kids for cardmaking.
  • Cardstock Warehouse Brand on Amazon – I love the quality of all the matte-colored cardstock with Cardstock Warehouse. It is my go-to brand for individual matte colors that I might need
  • Poptone Assorted Variety Pack – This is the perfect peppy assortment of colors of heavy cardstock. It’s a heavy cardstock assortment with colors I actually use frequently for cardmaking.
  • Seasonal Assorted Variety Pack – This is a slight variation on the Poptone assortment and has a quite few neutrals that complement almost any accent color.
  • Stardream Metallics Line – For paper crafts, the Stardream line is the go-to for a metallic shimmer finish. It is the perfect sheen to make any project pop. The core is also colored is which hard to find for metallic paper.

Glue – I use tacky glue. I had to use a little tape to hold the edges together while it dried though.

Lint Roller – This might be the most important item. You really need it to pick up the scraps. This or masking tape.

Cutting Machine – I use a Cricut. Check out my recommendations for Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.

Template – I’ve included 3 lace paper flower designs for free available in my resource library.

Tutorial and Tips for making Lace Paper Flowers

    Step 1: Cut the templates

Step 2: Roll the outer loops and hold them with tape if necessary. Then glue each loop onto the base circle with the largest on the bottom.

Make sure to offset the petals.

Step 3: Rolled the center loop loosely and glue to its base. Then assemble the whole thing together.

If you are looking for a simpler center, just skip the hold rolled center loop.

Is there a video? I cannot for the life of me figure out why there are 4 pieces (having never made a paper flower before). All the other videos are one piece. Thanks!

      1. Hi there, I haven’t gotten around to making a video for this one yet but it is similar to the construction of my magnolia flower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSQs-5oj9o0
I have multiple loops that you layer on top of each other so that you can control the overlap. I hope that helps in the meantime! I hope to get around to making more videos in the new year.

The flowers in your video and the flowers in your template don’t match. The video shows 4 petals but the template has 3, the video has a 4 individual ring and the template has one you roll and they don’t fit together. Am I missing something?

      1. Hi there, there are 3 lace flowers each with multiple layers. Some of the layers have 4 petals and some of them have 3.

I’m sorry, I can see that people have previously found the template for these lace flowers, however I am just getting circular references back to the tutorial without being able to access the file when I use the menu bar, search or otherwise. What am I missing please? Thanks

I agree with Cassandra, I only see 3 lace templates on each one and the video shows 4 so you can’t create the flower according to the video…..wanted to make it but it was a disaster with 3, can’t pull em together

    12. Bonnie Nunn

I am not able to create an account or find the free SVG. The flowers are so cute, but I can’t find the templates. I keep getting ads. Can you send me the link to create an account or the link to download the free svgs. Thanks.

    13. Donna

Please help. I have spent over six hours trying to find the templates for the lace flowers are they really there? I cannot find them. I even had a friend who is more computer literate than I am and she could not find them. Please help, these are so very beautiful!

      1. Elf @DomesticHeights

      Hi,
I’ve signed up for your newspaper, at one stage I could even put in the password you gave, but still am unable to access any of your templates as even though I’m going to your resource library it’s still the details but without the template.
Perhaps, after seeing multiple people having the same issue, your web manager could correct the links to save you having to respond individually to people with the same issue. I have tried to access 3 or 4 different templates but the actual template is missing.
The ones I’m particularly looking to get is the Lace Paper Flowers.
Everything seems to be on a loop to nowhere 🙂 hoping you can assist.
      Cheers,
      Gail

      1. Elf @DomesticHeights

Pl. send an email to info@domesticheights.com and our elf will help you out.
Alternatively, please use the search bar in the free resources library to search for any of the designs there.

I am trying to open the Auto Cad that came with the template, I’m assuming that they are the directions. I do not have Auto Cad, is there another way to open it? Also, when I open them in Cricut they are 25” wide and 28” long.

    16. Lori

I cannot even get past the signup part. Error 1 it said. Real bummer these are so pretty.
