DIY Cricut Butterfly Cards

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say sometimes I just need a nice blank card.

I designed this butterfly themed card set with simplicity in mind. It only required 2 colors of cardstock. Maybe 3 if you want the interior to be a different color.

No extra materials, or a gazillion different pieces. Just cut, assemble and done!

Plus, I think these are super cute and appropriate for lots of different occasions.

Recommended Materials for Butterfly Cards

Cardstock: I used 3 different types, one for the outside, a background watercolor print and then a different liner. For the liner, normal copy paper works well. I used origami paper for the background mostly because I just had it around. Here are some of my favorite brands:

Glue: Polymer-based glue doesn’t work well for cards because it puckers the paper a bit. Here are some of my favorite alternatives for cardmaking:

Cutting Machine – I use a Cricut. Check out my recommendations for Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.

Template: I’ve included 3 templates in this set for free in my resource library. These cards fit standard envelope sizes but I’ve included one just in case.

Tips of Assembling Butterfly Cards

Using the right mat

I like either a worn-out green mat or a fresh blue mat for this project. The cuts are a little bit more on the intricate side and need the paper to stick well to get a clean cut.

Lint Rollers are your friend

They are great for picking up the scraps. Transfer or masking tape works great too.

Skip the score lines

I rarely include them in my card designs because people forget to change them. I just use my scraper and slide it over the crease.

Be generous with the glue dots

You want to make sure the underlying patterned paper sticks to the top piece.
