I’ve been on a lace kick lately and thought it would look nice as petal designs on paper flowers. As always, I’ve included my SVG cut files for this project for free.
A lot of people try to make paper flowers look as close to the real thing as possible. I’m sort of in a different camp. I’ve decided paper flowers are their own art form and my goal is not to make it look like it does in nature.
If I wanted real flowers, I would just buy real flowers.
Maybe I’m just justifying my latest project. ha!
In any case, here’s a few tips on how to make these paper flowers.

Material Recommendations for Lace Paper Flowers
Cardstock – I’ve been making a lot of detailed cut designs lately and there are a few winners in Cardstock brands.
- Assorted Starter Pack – Basic assorted colors, great starter pack, perfect weight for most papercraft projects
- Cricut Joy Insert Card Packs – You don’t have to use these with the Cricut Joy, they are nice material kids for cardmaking.
- Cardstock Warehouse Brand on Amazon – I love the quality of all the matte-colored cardstock with Cardstock Warehouse. It is my go-to brand for individual matte colors that I might need
- Poptone Assorted Variety Pack – This is the perfect peppy assortment of colors of heavy cardstock. It’s a heavy cardstock assortment with colors I actually use frequently for cardmaking.
- Seasonal Assorted Variety Pack – This is a slight variation on the Poptone assortment and has a quite few neutrals that complement almost any accent color.
- Stardream Metallics Line – For paper crafts, the Stardream line is the go-to for a metallic shimmer finish. It is the perfect sheen to make any project pop. The core is also colored is which hard to find for metallic paper.
Glue – I use tacky glue. I had to use a little tape to hold the edges together while it dried though.
Lint Roller – This might be the most important item. You really need it to pick up the scraps. This or masking tape.
Cutting Machine – I use a Cricut. Check out my recommendations for Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.
Template – I’ve included 3 lace paper flower designs for free available in my resource library.
Tutorial and Tips for making Lace Paper Flowers
Step 1: Cut the templates
Step 2: Roll the outer loops and hold them with tape if necessary. Then glue each loop onto the base circle with the largest on the bottom.
Make sure to offset the petals.
Step 3: Rolled the center loop loosely and glue to its base. Then assemble the whole thing together.
If you are looking for a simpler center, just skip the hold rolled center loop.
