Cardstock Paper Blooming Rose

There are so many different varietals of roses I could probably dedicate an entire website to just paper roses.

At this point, I’ve made a few different types of roses from a giant one, to a layered one to a rolled rose.

I thought I make another layered rose that is a little more open. I find the layered type of paper flower is a nice compromise between having more control over how the petals overlap each other and not taking forever to assemble.

This particular rose can sit flat for wall art of be places on a floral stem for a bouquet. I personally like cardstock paper flowers as wall art more so that is the method I will show for this tutorial.

How to assembling a blooming paper rose

Step 1: Cut the petal layers from the templates

I use my Cricut to cut my cardstock. For less intricate designs like this one, I use the light grip blue mat because it is easier to cleanup.

The default size in my templates makes a flower that is about 3 inches wide.

    Step 2: Curl the petals

I do 2 types of curls for this flower. First I create a vertical concave curl along the length of the petal. I use a scraper device to do this.

For the largest 3 layers, I then roll the outer edges of each petal outward using a end of a brush.

    Step 3: Assemble the layers

I like to start with the bulb in the center and work my way outwards.

With the smallest layer, I just glue all the petals together.

I then glue this bulb to the next layer and glue the next layer of petals to the bulb.

For the third largest layer, I like flip this one around so the curve along the vertical of the petal is convex. This creates a nice irregular visual of how the flower petals are curled.

I continue like this working like towards the largest base layer.
