Paper Chrysanthemum Flower Template

I designed this chrysanthemum template with the intention of making it on the Cricut.

While it is possible to make this flower by hand, I would highly recommend using a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette.

With a cutting machine, this is super easy to make. The flower looks great as wall art or placed on floral stems in a bouquet.

Materials for Paper Chrysanthemum

Cardstock – Because there are so many intricate petals in this design, I would recommend using a non-textured cardstock with a colored core. The paper weight doesn’t matter as much. Textured cardstock tends to have white cores and doesn’t cut as well for detailed designs. Here are some of my favorite cardstock brands. I used the Metallic Shimmer assortment and Neenah collections for the flowers you see in the photos.

Floral Stems – There are many floral stems to choose from on Amazon. I like the 18 gauge ones for this project.

Cutting Machine – I use a Cricut. Check out my recommendations for Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.

Tips on Making these DIY Paper Chrysanthemum Flowers

Step 1: First cut all of the petal layers out.

Step 2: Curl the petals using either a scraper or a credit card. Hold the base of the petal as you are doing this and be gentle as to not tear the petal.

If a petal does tear off, just let it be. This is a very forgiving design and no one will notice if you are missing a petal.

Step 3: Glue each layer on top of each other starting with the largest as the base and working upwards.

By now,  you noticed that I am quite obsessed with flowers. What can I say, I just really like them. If you read some of my previous posts, you knew that I am comfortable doing them. Some of them are also easy to make that I encourage first-time crafters and DIY beginners to make them.

Chrysanthemum is one of the flowers that I cannot forget. First, I struggle with the spelling of its name. Second, the name sounds exotic. Third, the flower is really beautiful. However, making DIY paper chrysanthemum may be tricky for others. So, here’s a heads up for you.

Although it could be challenging for some, this DIY chrysanthemum is worth the effort. When I made my first chrysanthemum, I immediately fell in love. I showed it to my friends, and they were impressed. They were aware that I do a lot of DIY paper flowers. And the paper chrysanthemum is one of the best paper flowers I have made so far.

I know some of you consider chrysanthemum as your favorite flower. So, I made this DIY paper flower just for you. I was curious about this flower that I started looking more into it. I was surprised to know that Chrysanthemum is one of the most popular flowers in the world, just next to the rose. As of the moment, there are 40 wild species of chrysanthemum. But there are thousands of varieties due to selective breeding conducted. Isn’t it amazing? I never thought that chrysanthemums have such a popular reputation.
