Spiral paper flowers are the perfect addition to so many craft projects from shadow boxes, to cards to wall art.
I love the look of a flatter spiral paper flower for all sorts of arts and craft projects. From simple arrangments to more complicated bouquets, they are the most versatile paper flower to use for every occasion.
Here, I’ve just placed a set of these spiral paper flowers against a dark backdrop in interesting configurations. I then added some gold paper foliage. There actually wasn’t much to it and there are only 14 spiral paper flowers. There is no need to fill an entire shadow box to get a dramatic art piece.
This set includes 7 different petal shapes and 2 patterns for each petal shape. One set is uniform throughout the roll and the other set has a slight gradient increasing in size for the outer petals. I’ve purposely designed these to have a flatter petal so that the finished flower is flatter.

Cardstock – My favorite cardstock for rolled flowers is the Recollections 65lb line with colored cores. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Assorted Starter Pack – Basic assorted colors, great starter pack, perfect weight for most papercraft projects
- Cricut Joy Insert Card Packs – You don’t have to use these with the Cricut Joy, they are nice material kids for cardmaking.
- Cardstock Warehouse Brand on Amazon – I love the quality of all the matte-colored cardstock with Cardstock Warehouse. It is my go-to brand for individual matte colors that I might need
- Poptone Assorted Variety Pack – This is the perfect peppy assortment of colors of heavy cardstock. It’s a heavy cardstock assortment with colors I actually use frequently for cardmaking.
- Seasonal Assorted Variety Pack – This is a slight variation on the Poptone assortment and has a quite few neutrals that complement almost any accent color.
- Stardream Metallics Line – For paper crafts, the Stardream line is the go-to for a metallic shimmer finish. It is the perfect sheen to make any project pop. The core is also colored is which hard to find for metallic paper.
Glue – I use tacky glue. A glue gun works too but I can’t be bothered to get mine out.

How to Make Spiral Paper Flowers
Step 1: Gather your materials and cut the templates
Step 2: Start the roll with a quilling tool of choice. I actually don’t own any real tools, I just use tweezers or a bobby pin or paper clip to get things started.
Step 3: fold the center circle tab and glue the base
There are all sorts of different arrangements you can make with your spiral paper flower. For a more dramatic effect, try a combination of super bright and saturated background color with a gradient of spiral paper flowers.
You can also supplement with some fake foliage or paper leaves.
I find making these spiral paper flowers super fun and satisfying. This is a great beginner’s paper flower design. You can also experiment with rolling them tighter or looser depending on the end aesthetic you are going for.
They are also fun flowers to put in shadow box for some wall art. You can add them to various wrapping projects or decor crafts. I’ve even put them on cakes, diaper cakes that is!
