While I don’t live in a place where beach life is possible all year round, it is nice to do a little getaway in the middle of the winter.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. We’ve been cooped up for months now with COVID quarantine. Our annual summer vacation was canceled. Our planned spring break was put on hold indefinitely. I went through multiple phases of withdrawal. At first, it was just a general disappointment to be missing on the trips we already planned. Then I became super frustrated that not only was vacation not possible, we couldn’t even really leave the house. After a few months of frustration, I mostly just gave up. It’s tough when there is no definitive end date to this pandemic madness.
While it’d be nice to take a beach vacation right now, I would be ok with just a mental break from all of this social quarantine. So I’m doing the next best thing which is to prep for a beach vacation that I will eventually take… even if it’s not for another year or more.
It’s never to early to pack for a vacation right?
Life is always better at the beach…
We did have a couple of trips including a cruise planned that got postponed. I didn’t have the heart to just completely cancel the trip so I just took credit instead of a full refund in the hopes that the company doesn’t go out of business and that we would eventually get to exercise our credits. I have my fingers crossed that they make it through quarantine because I have a feeling business is going to be booming with all this pent up desire to travel.

This past fall when the weather was in the 90s, we actually bought a plastic pool from the local sports gear store and filled it up with some water from our neighbor’s hose. (we actually don’t even have an outdoor water hose, what can I say…city life) It is a far cry from our last vacation to Waikiki with endless beachfront to frolic but it was better than nothing.

While my closet is full of totes, I still like making a customized item to commemorate each vacation. It sort of makes the whole experience last a little bit longer. Every time I see or use the tote, I’m reminded of all the fun times we had.
