My son asked for a pumpkin face template so he could compete in his school’s pumpkin carving contest so I made this set of scary pumpkin stencils.
The only thing is my son is in Kindergarten and I can’t imagine the school condoning letting a 6 year old kid use a knife to do pumpkin carving.
I mean, I find it hard enough to do pumpkin carving myself and I’m a relatively competent adult.
I made these pumpkin face design with the intention of having him just color it on the pumpkin and hopefully they will make an exception for the younger participants.

Tips for carving pumpkins with a stencil
When cutting the stencil film, I like to use the lighter version of the Stencil Film 0.4mm setting. It still cuts through the backing in parts but the blade doesn’t dig into the mat as much.

If I don’t have stencil film on hand, I will use vinyl but I prefer stencil film because it holds its shape a bit more and isn’t as sticky. Using vinyl for stenciling can get a bit messy and the cutout sometimes ends up a tangled mess.

You can cut directly with the stencil film cutout on the pumpkin but I have my kids color it in with a marker just to occupy them more.
