Materials for DIY Wooden Ornaments

Wood Rounds – You can get a pack of wood rounds from amazon and make a bunch for the family and gift the rest.

Wood Ornament Blanks – If you prefer the smoother less rustic ornament-shaped wood blanks, you can also get a pack in bulk and make one for the entire extended family!

Acrylic PaintAcrylic is an affordable paint that you can use for these wooden ornaments.

Cricut – I use a cutting machine to do some of the cutting for this project. This of course is optional but it sure makes things go faster. Check out my reviews for Best Cricut machines for beginners if you’re new to the Cricut.

Templates – The seasonal sayings and other templates featured here are all available for free in both SVG and printable PDF formats in my resource library.

There are lots of variations on wooden ornaments for the holidays.

I find making ornaments out of wood rounds to be the most versatile. With a wood round base, you can paint, add vinyl or even add a photo of the family.

I do a lot with my Cricut cutting machine during the holidays and these are just a few examples. I made these designs using vinyl and a template (that is available for free in my resource library). You can also iron them on with HTV or just do some painting by hand.

It’s always fun to personalize with photo during the holidays. Here I made this photo imprint using freezer paper and my printer. Check out my tutorial on how to do photo transfer with freezer paper here for more details.

DIY elegant christmas ornaments

For more sophisticated taste, you can also cut your own wood ornaments into elegant shapes like my minimalist antlers ornament here. This is actually wood veneer that I stacked on top of each other. Wood veneer is thin enough to cut with a pair of scissors and is perfect for more detailed projects like this.

I used the Cricut branded walnut wood veneer sheets for this project.
