5 DIY new years decorations Ideas

Whether you’re decorating to celebrate the new year with just the family or a big blowout party, I have some fun DIY decor and crafts that will be perfect for the occasion.

While there’s a mixed back for some holidays, I think everyone loves celebrating New Years. By the end of the year, I’m exhausted, I’m ready for a new start and I want to kick everything off in style.

With Christmas and a couple of other big holidays right beforehand, I usually forget about New Year’s plans and celebrations until it’s just a few days before. Hence, the need for some DIY decorations and crafts.

The best part of decorating and crafting for New Years is you can recycle a lot of the things and materials you had for the earlier holidays.

The templates and printables for these New Years crafts featured here are all free and available in my resource library.

New Years Crafts for Adults

New years is not a celebration without champagne. A fun way to add to the festivities is to make your own wine glass charms. I have a full tutorial on how to make your own wine glass charms here but this “Happy New Year” wine glass charm template printable and SVG is available for free in my resource library.

One of the fun things about DIY party decor is the use of wine in all sorts of ways. I love using wine bottles as part of the backdrop. You can do this with unopened bottles and then consume them as the night goes on, or if you’ve saved a few empty wine bottles, you can use them as semi-permanent very cost-effective decorative pieces for your party. Check out my full tutorial on how to wrap wine bottles and how to paint and decorate with empty wine bottles for more details.

New Years Crafts for Preschoolers

Kids love to celebrate too and partake in the festivities as well. While my kids are still young and I usually don’t let them stay up that late, I do let them help out with the arts and crafts during the day in preparation. It also helps occupy them during this time off.

I have a full tutorial on how to make cupcake toppers that are perfect for both finger food for the party or drink toppers.

It’s not a party without a celebratory hat or crown! Make these Happy New Year crowns with your kids during the day and then wear them for the party at night.

New years eve party theme ideas for adults

There are so many directions you can go with a New Years Eve Party. If you want to recycle some of the Christmas decor, think about a Winter Wonderland theme party with lots of white, silver and blue.

Maybe a Glitter and Disco party is more your thing. You can repurpose those ornaments now and use them as mini-disco balls for the party.

Throw in some additional metallic pieces that you can actually just make with cardstock like these medallion pieces I made with bronze-colored paper.

Looking for a more low-key event? Throw a Pajama Party just for the family and cozy up next to the fireplace with some spike cider drinks.

Or maybe you’re heading over to a friend’s place to celebrate. Don’t go empty-handed! Add a personal touch with a monogrammed wine bag or wrapping to make that bottle extra special for the occasion.
